Billings Grief Support!

"I am pleased that you have selected me as your therapist. It is my intention to provide you with quality, supportive, and ethical care." - Teresa Kennedy

WHAT IS GRIEF?

I have heard it said that grief is the price of LOVE.

Grief is the natural reaction to loss. It is both universal, meaning we all sometimes experience grief, but it’s also very personal - we all grieve in deeply personal ways.

Grief is a strong, sometimes overwhelming emotion that people experience when they suffer loss. Some grief does not involve death. Your loss can be a person, a pregnancy, a serious or terminal diagnosis you or someone you love has received, a beloved pet, a home, even the loss of a rewarding career, or the loss of independence through disability.

WHY IS GRIEF SUPPORT IMPORTANT?

There is no right or wrong way to grieve. As a feeling, it just IS, never good or bad. We might find ourselves feeling numb and removed from daily life, unable to carry on with our regular life. Living with our loss can seem desperate, unbearable, even impossible. We must realize we can't control the process, and to prepare for varying stages of grief, which are different for every person and circumstance.

Understanding why we're suffering can help, as can talking to others and trying to resolve issues that cause significant emotional pain, such as feeling responsible or guilty for a loved one's death.

Mourning can last for months or years. Generally, our pain lessens as time passes, and we learn to live without a loved one, to the news of a terminal diagnosis, or to the realization that someone we love may die.

If you're uncertain about whether your grieving process is normal, I can help you sort that out. Outside help is sometimes beneficial to people trying to recover and adjust to a death, horrendous bad news, or other loss.
